Lay betting may be a counterintuitive concept for many. This is because gamblers are accustomed to trying to figure out which horse is likely to win a race. However, lay betting flips this scenario and presents the opportunity for the gambler to try to determine which horse, or horses, will lose.
Selecting a horse that will lose sounds like it would be really easy. After all only one horse wins the race and the rest of the field are losers.Lay betting is not as easy as it seems though and there are challenges involved. The process of lay betting with success will be discussed in this article. Consider a conventional betting system where you place your money on the horse you want to win.
In this system you need your horse to defeat all of the other horses in the race. However, when you place a lay bet you put yourself in a much better position.Instead of betting on a winner you bet on a loser when you place a lay bet. With this type of bet it does not matter which horse wins the race as long as it is not the one you bet on.
When you first think about it you may be inclined to think picking a losing horse is much easier than picking a winning horse. This may be so but there are also many other factors to consider in a lay betting sytem. In particular you will have to pay very careful attention to the odds when you are placing a lay bet.In general you should not lay bet when the odds are greater than 5/1.Preferably you should not place a lay bet unless the odds are 5/1 or less. While obviously the chances of your horse losing are greater when the odds against him are greater these greater odds can create problems for you in the event of an upset.
When the odds against your horse are lower you have some financial protection in case there is an upset and your horse wins the race.By following this step you avoid owing a lot of money if you lose the bet.
